Katie was originally born in Hood River, Oregon but grew up in Melbourne, Florida. She is a Business Management major with a minor in Innovations and a minor in Management and Sales in Agribusiness. She likes to spend my time practicing yoga, going on hikes, cooking new foods, and cuddling with her kittens.
I like to spend my time doing things that make me happy. Nature brings me a lot of joy in my life, so I love exploring nature trails when I travel to new places. I also enjoy trying new foods, cooking for myself, and spending time with my 2 kitties.
One thing I have been committed to since my first semester at UF has been the group fitness yoga classes. I love being able to study on campus and walk to a relaxing yoga class right after. I have been able to meet friendly students and stay committed to my physical health. Yoga has helped me stay motivated through each semester and I think it is a great way to take a break before exams.
Like I said, I love spending time doing things that make me happy so I would love to have a job where I could travel the world and share my experiences. I know most jobs won’t pay you to be on vacation full time so I would also enjoy a job where I work with an innovative team to brainstorm solutions towards sustainability issues. I would love to tackle problems like food waste, packaging, and sustainable farming practices.
While studying at UF, I have maintained a few part-time jobs to help fund my expenses at college. One of the jobs I had was being a manager at Larry’s Giant Subs. In this position, I was able to understand that as a manager, your job is no longer to build the product but to build the team that builds the product. I was able to implement the techniques I was learning in my managerial classes while leading a team. This created a positive work environment which skyrocketed productivity, sales, and happy customers. In the Summer of 2020, the building was torn down for an apartment complex, but I was able to assist in the closing of the restaurant and form lifetime relationships.
A few semesters ago I participated in the Retail You! program with Cece Schultz at UF. Together, we studied our MBTI results and how this insight can aid in our professional development. Cece advised us how important it is to know yourself, understand how you work with other people, and how other people work with you.
